Description

Sooooo I have gotten into the habit of naming my computers, consoles, etc. and giving them gijinkas and such. My former computer had the moniker of "Nekomputer," because it basically was a cat. I mean, it sat on my lap, got all warm, making me not want to move... Plus, it worked when it wanted to work, which is such a cat thing.

Anywho, this is Nate, 13" Macbook Pro. Named him so 'cuz he reminded me of a snake, and the only famous snake with a name ~1wordinsane and I could think of came from The Longest Joke in the World.

First thing I did when I got him was color the apple. :D I covered it with crazyglue, except then I had to scrape off the green & yellow, because some sharpie pigments have this terribad reaction to crazyglue and turn a ruddy pink. Also, it's hard to see here, but the orange and red are distinct colors.

I've been trying to give him a cool back thing for a while, but true to a snake, most things just rub off. I tried giving him a video-game-themed sharpie black and the silver finish that came with the laptop, but it rubbed off unless I put superglue or something on it. So I finished detailing it up with the small fine-tip sharpie and applied the crazyglue because I was impatient and did not yet know the wonders of spray-on sealant. Aaaand I learned that finetip sharpies have a bad reaction to superglue and their black gets mixed up in the glue and goes everywhere and turns a plummy purple. :l So I had to scrape that off with my trusty exactoknife, scratching the finish in the process.

Then I was like "AUGH not doing all that work again," because my videogame collagey thing was amazing and took forever. So I painted it white and, lacking new inspiration, left it that way for a while.

Until it hit me recently, Doctor Who's name in circular Gallifreyan looks awesome. So I was going to do that but then I learned there are a couple of fan-systems for writing your OWN Gallifreyan. And thus this was born.

The particular gallifreyan I used is based mainly upon the stuff over at the wiki here, and I believe that is based upon Sherman's Gallifreyan, as presented here. But I didn't know there were other options, and some other fan versions of circular Gallifreyan are simply GORGEOUS, even if they're not accurate to what has been seen in the show. (because apparently the show seriously just has it to make it look cool, and the producers pull symbols out of a hat when they want things to look ancient-alien-y). I'd really suggest looking at this tumblr post before you decide to write anything. I want to buy Greencook's new gallifreyan book when she puts it on the interwebs. There's a theory out there that circular Gallifreyan is more of an archaic symbolic system than a usable language, so it'd only be used for pompous occasions (in the case of names) or for immediate visual information. After all, it's quite a lot put into a very compact space. Sort of. Anyway it looks cool.

Euhm, so yeah! Random bubbles, my name in Gallifreyan, and a derpy doodle of the Tardis, all done in sharpie and then coated this time with a sealant-in-a-can.

By the waaay, the coloring on my Gallifreyan name was based on Vi Hart's mathmatical node artwork she's got up on youtube. I haven't seen it in aaages but I remembered it, so I picked three colors and went to work. Looks pretty snazzy, in my opinion~ Vi Hart's a cool mathmetician who integrates it into art, and figuring out the world in general. Cool thing to check out if you're bored.

I'm pretty happy with how this came out, overall; although I sure hope Nate's okay with being a Whoovian like I am. >w<

I also got a new cellphone! Her name is Amity, and I'll be giving her an equally cool cover in different materials. Namely, Sculpey if I find the time.

TL;DR: Watch Doctor Who, it's a great show.
